The dress code, Tailored To You, is a celebration of The Costume Institute’s spring exhibit Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which itself is inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. Elsewhere in the statement, Roach was rather happy about teaming up with Burbs. “It is an honour to collaborate with Burberry. The Met Gala encourages creativity at the highest level, which is at the core of the British house,” said the stylist. “I have always admired Daniel’s progressive design which champions an idea of modern Britishness.” In the same statement, Lee also added that “Law pushes the boundaries of style through his unique point of view on fashion and culture” and that he was “very excited to collaborate with Law for this year’s Met Gala.” Daniel LeeCourtesy of Burberry Taking place on Monday, May 5, this year’s event will be chaired by Anna Wintour alongside Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell, who were all immortalised this month with their own individual US Vogue covers. It’s the first time Wintour has chosen an all-male board since she started co-chairing the event in 1995, which makes a lot of sense considering the heavy menswear focus of this year’s theme. Usually, the men of the Met Gala leave a lot to be desired, rocking up in boring run-of-the-mill tuxedos, but with this group of co-chairs – and Law Roach on Burberry’s team – it looks like things are set to shift.
