Martine Syms has built a career dissecting the ways media, technology, and pop culture shape our understanding of identity. As an artist, filmmaker, and writer, her multidisciplinary work has often incorporated humor with critical commentary on race, power, and the everyday absurdities of digital life.
Whether through video installations, performance, or print, Syms’ work holds up a mirror to the systems that govern how we see ourselves, and each other. Over the years, her projects have been exhibited everywhere from MoMA to Tate Modern, while her publishing imprint, Dominica, has been a key platform for voices exploring Black radical thought. Now, Syms brings her signature perspective to H&M’s S/S 2025 campaign, taking over the Soho flagship store in New York to debut a special project she has been working on.
On Friday, April 11, from 6-8pm, Syms will be signing free copies of a new zine created specifically for the occasion. Of course, no H&M event would be complete without music. Alongside the zine signing, Syms be taking over the DJ booth, curating a set with special guest sets including Sienna Fekete and keiyaA.
As part of the collaboration, Syms has also designed a limited-edition artwork titled Astrology Is Real If You Want It, which will be printed on a selection of free t-shirts and posters. If you can’t make it on Friday night, you can still stop by the Soho store on Saturday and Sunday from 12-5PM to grab a piece before they’re gone.
