Street style AW25: Non-stop downpour couldn’t rain on Paris’s parade

Despite an entire week of unrelenting rain, showgoers still peacocked in their thousands outside the season’s buzziest shows

Newsflash: it’s been raining in Paris this week. We know this because every fashion editor’s Instagram Stories have told us so. These up-to-the-minute, live reports have meant that those unlucky enough not to be at the AW25 men’s shows can witness the powerful bravery of those same editors withstanding mild drizzle and 3mph winds to attend a Rick Owens show. They’re stronger than the marines really!

Despite that torrential downpour, this is fashion week after all, and fashion week is ultimately about putting on your finest, most ostentatious outfit and attending the season’s buzziest show. This time round, for Paris Fashion Week’s AW25 menswear collections, a majority of the showgoers seemed to be dressing against the weather, in the hope that some lightness and brightness might act as a deterrent against the gloomy, grey skies.

A pair of pink, pointy monkstrap boots stuck out from the crowd (despite some small droplets of rain on them), while other men also dressed in all-pink fits, sparkly hooded tops and bright blue bomber jackets. Other guests’ kaleidoscopic fits also seemed to reference the rainbow after the storm, with one person adorning themselves in vivid flowers and carrying a colourful basketball bag, while others swaddled themselves in skirts made from carpet off-cuts and layers and layers of tulle.

Whether they were dressing like a rainbow to cancel out the rain, or pulling their coats and hoods up against the wind, this season’s street style was as camera-ready as it’s ever been, and photographer Jamie-Maree Shipton was on hand to capture all the fits.
