Despite ticket scalpers charging upwards of £1,000 for the triple-sold-out tour leg, moods were with attendees dressing to the theme of “Pink Pony Club”, hit single off Roan’s breakthrough album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. The streets of Brixton were painted pink as fans took inspiration from the “Pink Pony Club” single artwork, which depicts Roan in a pink cowboy outfit adorned with lace and sequins. The single itself tells the story of Chappell’s first experiences at a fictional gay bar, rumoured to be based on queer nightclub The Abbey in West Hollywood. “I heard there’s a special place, where boys and girls can be queens every day,” Roan sings on the track, providing a strong call to fabulousness for the sold-out crowd. Looks riff on this campy Western theme, with photographer Isabella Aoife Fowden’s photos depicting fans rocking fluffy cowboy hats, pink corsets and even some donning Roan’s distinctive pale make-up, who has previously stated that she has been heavily influenced by drag culture. While performing “HOT TO GO!” at the Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle, Washington, earlier this year, beloved drag artist and RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Sasha Colby strutted out on-stage and danced to the track’s viral chorus.
