Rossy De Palma to play a fashionista moth in Jean Paul Gaultier’s new film

Featuring Parisian insects and haute couture creations, the animated film is set to drop in 2027

While Jean Paul Gaultier has officially put his feet up from designing – instead enlisting a rotating roster of designers including Glenn Martens, Simone Rocha, Haider Ackermann, and Shayne Oliver – it seems he’s not quite done with his creative endeavours.

Previously creating costumes for films including The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover and The Fifth Element, Gaultier will take on the role of artistic director for an upcoming animated movie set to be released in 2027 – set your alarm clocks now!

Directed by Benoît Philippon, the currently untitled film follows the story of a humble moth who dreams of becoming a couturier and travels to Paris to make her debut. Blending the human and insect world, an alter-ego of Gaultier will feature in the film alongside Madonna and actress and JPG muse Rossy de Palma, who is set to play a chic Parisian boutique owner. Additional ‘celebrity friends’ are promised to join the cast as production continues.

Drawing inspiration from the brand’s archive and the designer’s sketches, fans of JPG will likely be firmly seated in anticipation of the film’s release. “[Gaultier] has been involved from the beginning, he will be involved until the end,” shares Mattieu Zeller, CEO of nWave Studios, the animation company behind the film. “Bringing his ideas, vision, inspiring the whole team. It’s artistic director – but it’s more complex than that.”
