There’s that one quote from Coco Chanel that’s been popping up on them since the beginning of time, repeated ad infinitum on blogs and vision boards and IG captions across the web: “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.” Looking at the streets of Paris this season, it’s as if the Couture guests heard that old adage and decided to do the complete opposite, throwing out Chanel’s tired old rule and heaping on the layers and accessories with gusto. Anyway, how could they hear her advice when huge silver pairs of AirPod Maxs were covering their ears? If those headphones weren’t on heads they were hanging off bag straps, where you’d also find Disney plushies, cute teddies and even a passport photo. Elsewhere, sunnies came in wraparounds of crystal pink or gothic Balenciaga styles, while Croc heels were embedded with monochromatic pom-poms, and a bed of roses adorned one guest’s entire head. Even outside the Chanel show itself, attendees couldn’t help loading up, tacking little quilted bags with even littler quilted bags, and wacking on ostentatious headpieces of diamantéd fishnets.
