But don’t worry, they won’t be heading down to the Bristol Bar for a pint of Tennent’s, a toast to the Queen, and a hearty chant accusing the Pope of paedophilia just yet. You see, it was all down to a comical misunderstanding! It turns out that the six-member group was trying to pay their respects to the Texas Rangers, a local baseball team, and simply ordered the wrong kit. It’s an easy mistake to make – especially given they are from South Korea – and they deserve no mockery for it. Rangers fans on social media were quick to voice their support, with one of them crowing, with typically loathsome arrogance, that “Rangers are the kings of K-pop”. In the spirit of fairness, I think STAYC should perform the rest of their world tour wearing retro Celtic jerseys, and consider working some Irish rebel songs into their set. While it might have been a mishap, STAYC’s look was also very on-trend. The ‘Blokette’ look is having a moment this year, having graduating from TikTok to the fashion world (and, honestly, there are few things more bloketty than a 1990's Ranger shirt.) Rather than feeling embarassed, STAYC could lean into this vibe, and start referring to things as “litty, longgy letty”, listening to Oasis, drining cherry Lambrini, getting into fights with nightclub bathroom attendants and posting ostentatiously expensive fry-ups on Instagram. K-pop band STAYC mistakenly wore the wrong Rangers shirts for their gig in Texas.
