From Albert Square to fashion fare: Charli XCX is having a great week!

The pop chameleon takes a starring role in JW Anderson’s latest campaign, and also bags a deranged shout-out from the long-running British soap Eastenders

It’s been quite the couple of days for Charli XCX. Today, she was unveiled as the face of JW Anderson’s Corner Bag campaign, starring in a series of sultry photographs for the brand. In one of the shots, the singer channels True Romance-era Charli with a frizzy, backcombed do, pairing it with a longline black trench and matching leather sailor’s cap. The Tom of Finland-inspired look was accessorised with some embroidered opera gloves, sizeable hoops and the slouchy Corner Bag’s chunky gold hardware. In an accompanying clip, Charli stares wistfully into the camera while guitar shreds ring through the background. Intense!

In other images, Charli sports the same leather cap while wearing some chunky knit creations, reclining on a shabby Tempur mattress placed artfully on the floor. Though she doesn’t lend her likeness to any old brand, the singer is no stranger to a J-Dubs campaign. The designer tapped her last year to front the vibrant ads for his Bumper Bag, casting Charli alongside both miniature and giant versions of the Dua Lipa-approved It-bag. This time, the David Sims-lensed campaign takes on a much more muted tone, sticking to a softer colour palette to match the Corner Bag’s more sophisticated look.

But, like we said, it's been quite the couple of days for Charli, and that’s not the only news in Camp XCX. The new campaign comes off the back of a busy week, which has seen the singer earn her own personalised shout-out in the iconic British soap Eastenders. On Monday night’s episode, the show saw teenagers Ricky Mitchell and Lily Slater (from the famous Mitchell and Slater dynasties) give birth to a baby girl. When the child’s grandmother, Stacy Slater, asks her name, Ricky tells her that it’s Charli. “Aw! After Uncle Charlie?” responds Stacy, to which Ricky replies, “No, after Charli XCX”. The singer soon caught wind of the homage, and took to Twitter to respond. “Shout out my gays in the writers room!” she responded gleefully. What a week it’s been for Charli.
