...and more fashion news you missed
What has been going on in the Palace studio over the past six months? Because, to read the runes on its AW22 collection wouldn’t necessarily bring you closer to the answer. Tailored two pieces bear canine portraits, a Poundland Jesus is emblazoned across fluffy gilets, psychedelic mushrooms glow from sweatshirts, and then there’s a load of fake band merch. Suffice to say the offering boasts all of the irreverence that has fast become Palace’s signature – alongside a certain technical prowess and references to workwear, that is. Clean-lined fleeces extend into reflective hoods, and boxy pockets jut from chore jackets and pebble-hued sweaters. This season’s bounty also includes another adidas collaboration, with its three stripes installed across 90s-style collars and track sleeves. Flick through the gallery above to see the rest of the collection and head over to Palace to shop the lot.
In other fashion news this week, Raf Simons announced that he would be staging his next collection in London, Julia Fox hailed the fallopian fit look, and Valentino invited us all into its nudist escape. Elsewhere, Takeshi Kitano made a glorious appearance in Loewe’s AW22 campaign, as Beyoncé flexed her fashion fluency with RENAISSANCE, and Demna furthered his commitment to help rebuild Ukraine. GISELE THE TREE-HUGGER
This week, Gisele Bünchden got an unexpected gig as the environmental and community projects advisor of Swiss watch label IWC Schaffhausen. A cause seemingly close to her heart, the supermodel has been Goodwill’s Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program since 2009, and served as the executive producer on Netflix documentary Kiss the Ground about regenerative agriculture, before celebrating her 40th by planting 40,000 trees. Good for Gisele!
FENDI PRAISES THE VANGUARD
The 2022 Fendi Vanguard Award recipients were announced this week, an honour which goes to Juilliard students poised to be future innovators in the performing arts. Cash prizes went to actor Stella Everett, dancer Raven Joseph, mezzo-soprano Mary Beth Nelson, and harpsichordist Peter Lim from Atlanta. Alongside mentoring from figures within Fendi’s artistic network, perhaps the best aspect of the award is that all the recipients get the chance to be styled in Fendi for any major engagements. Almost makes the student debt worth it!
VALENTINO HANDS OVER ITS INSTAGRAM

The Gagosian features two of these creations on display, alongside two Alaïa handbags that are available for sale in the shop and online.

DANIEL LISMORE HEADS TO THE V&A
Multidisciplinary artist Daniel Lismore – AKA England’s most eccentric dresser – has been tapped as the next designer in the V&A’s Fashion in Motion series. Staged in the museum’s Raphael Court on August 5, four fashion presentations will showcase highlights from Lismore’s recent exhibition Be Yourself, Everybody Else is Taken, alongside his new Jubilee look on view for the first time. It’s free to attend so scurry on down to South Ken for some culture.
MORE TEARS FOR LEVI’S
The second collaboration from Levi’s and Denim Tears launched this week, further exploring the history of the African diaspora by spotlighting the craftsmanship of the Gullah Geechee people – descendants of enslaved Africans on the plantations of the lower American Atlantic coast. Pieces have been splattered with an all-over print resembling indigo hands on white denim, while the colour palette pays homage to the Kofa Mata Dye pits in Kano, Nigeria.
