Chop life or life will chop you! For #IssueV, the fifth under editor-in-chief IB Kamara, we explore the creative legacy of Virgil Abloh. Channelling his own irreverent take on reinventing luxury, we journeyed to Senegal’s local markets to document west Africa’s take on designer dupes.
Issue V is not so much a direct tribute as it is an attempt to embody Abloh’s eternally playful spirit: his iconoclasm, his desire to rip up genre codes and remix the future, his open invitation to others to share in his vision. Elsewhere in the issue, which lands on Thursday, we meet the creatives turning trash heaps into art, and the free-runners making street theatre from the bombed-out buildings of Gaza. It’s about celebrating the power of the imagination to prevail in even the most testing of times – and the potential of art to remix life.
