Kristin-Lee Moolman transports Moncler to new territory

The photographer and stylist Chloe Andrea Welgemoed contrast the Italian label’s AW21 collection with the bleached stone and suburbs of South Africa

In Dazed’s newly-dropped, Rihanna-covered, 30th anniversary issue, photographer Kristin-Lee Moolman and stylist Chloe Andrea Welgemoed get their hands on the latest collection by Moncler

Shot in Moolman’s native South Africa, the editorial sees a diverse bunch of models dressed head-to-toe in AW21’s standout pieces. In one image, a group of four peer down the lens of the camera from behind wide mirrored sunglasses, while in another, one stands awkwardly in front of a sun-bleached house in the street.

The high-shine vinyl rolls of the revered Italian label’s puffer jackets, overcoats, and pumped-up pants stand in stark contrast to the soft, natural hues of the ancient stone and hazy suburban backdrops.

The finished result feels like Moolman and her cohort have stepped onto the set of of a sci-fi movie, with the models taking their first, exploratory steps through unfamiliar terrain on an undiscovered inhabited planet.
