If you’re from the UK, imagining it is all you can do, since the government seems to have left the weather dial stuck on wet and grey this year. For designer Thom Browne, the weather is inconsequential, as he sets about preparing his models for any and every eventuality when wearing his designs. After months stuck indoors, Browne began reminiscing on his day (yes, day – he packed it in after that) as a Boy Scout and enjoying the great outdoors, which became the starting point for his Pre-Fall 2021 collection. Featuring the playful tailoring the designer is known for, the collection also incorporates whimsical details like hiking boots with cable knit-printed tread and salmon-shaped bags, plus corsets designed to be worn whether you’re he, she, or they. “Everybody is speaking about dressing down, but I love pushing the idea of dressing up – not occasion dressing, but for everyday,” Browne said of the offering. In the latest issue of Dazed (if you’ve not picked up yours yet, why?), photographer Nicole Heiniger and stylist George Krakowiak got together to create Outta Sight – a shoot that road-tests the collection, albeit from the confines of a studio environment. With pops of fun via beaded hair courtesy of hair duo Mika and Lu Safro, paper parasols, and a pair of balloon sculptures-cum-dresses, the images are a lesson in getting dressed up – even if you don’t, or can’t, leave the house. The Summer 2021 issue of Dazed is out now. All clothes and accessories worn throughout Thom Browne pre-fall 2021.
