With the June menswear season quickly cancelled (save for LFW, which just last week hosted its first-ever digital version), all eyes turned to September and whether or not the SS21 shows would go ahead. Now, as lockdown measures beginning to lift in many of the countries that play host to fashion week, it seems like the answer could be yes – given Burberry just revealed some pretty solid sounding plans for a live presentation set in the ‘British outdoors’, which will be broadcast digitally to all. “As humans, we have always had a deep affinity to nature. We have had to respect and rely upon its power for our very existence, whilst marvelling and revelling in its extraordinary beauty,” explained Riccardo Tisci of the move. “Especially recently, we have all yearned to reconnect again and for this show, I wanted to celebrate these feelings by bringing our community together in a creative experience that takes place within the beautiful, natural landscape of Britain.” Notably, the immersive experience is set to be entirely carbon neutral, with the label also taking steps to ensure its environmental impact is minimal. Both Burberry’s SS20 and AW20 shows were both carbon neutral, with the likes of Gucci following close behind in offsetting its own presentations. With Burberry announcing cement plans for SS21, it’s now likely we’ll see a host of other labels revealing their own in the coming weeks. As for what the show will entail – aside from sadly not actually involving the fashion crowd clambering over stiles and trudging through muddy fields IRL, which we would have been genuinely down for tbh – for now, we’re none the wiser.
