The British Fashion Council urges designers to help create face masks

The institution has sent a call out to those with ‘production capacity’

With Phoebe English and Kerby Jean-Raymond having both recently offered to use their platform in fashion as a means of service during the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, the British Fashion Council has announced a new initiative which will provide aid in the face of the pandemic.

Taking to Instagram to share the news, the institution will be working with both the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Department for Health and Social Care to help manufacture essential products, including masks.

Sending a call out for all ‘designers with production capacity’, the post asked for those “able and willing to support” to get in contact with the British government.

Explaining that “in times of need, the fashion industry can be of service,” this surely won’t be the last fashion body to offer its resources during this time. As masks become a more and more sought after necessity, many others throughout the industry have also begun to create hand-made face masks as a means of help.

If this is something you are able to support, contact: info@britishfashioncouncil.com
