Lana Del Rey bought her 2020 Grammys dress at the mall

We’re living for the shop-bought sequin embellished gown

From Billie Eilish in Gucci to Lil Nas X in Versace, head-to-toe custom creations (quite literally the case for Eilish, who sported Gucci nails) inundated this year’s Grammy awards’ red-carpet runway. But it was one artist who seemingly threw away the star-studded event rule book, rocking up wearing something more attainable than aspirational – as in, you could hit up your local shopping centre (Milton Keynes, Minnesota...) and get something similar.

Lana Del Rey attended last night’s ceremony in a dress she purchased at the mall. Revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Norman Fucking Rockwell singer responded to arguably the most anticipated question “Who are you wearing?” by saying “(I got it) at the mall ... I saw (it) and I loved it.”

Now on sale on the Harvey Nichols website (down from £610 to £183), the dress was designed by New York-based designer Aidan Mattox and was a last minute purchase for Del Rey, who explained, “I had another dress and then my boyfriend and I were getting a belt for him at the mall and I saw this and I loved it, so this is a last-minute dress. I tailored it right there... So, you know, a little mix and match. ... We're making it all work.”

Del Rey was up for both album and song of the year, but lost out to Billie Eilish on both counts, going home empty-handed – to many Del Rey stans’ despair. Who needs a Grammy anyway when you’ve got a local bargain?
