The release of new Safdie Brothers film Uncut Gems has seen Adam Sandler become the first unlikely style icon of 2020. Starring as sleazy NY jeweller Howard Ratner, who gets in over his head with a bunch of loan sharks after placing a series of ill-advised bets, the actor is seen wearing a succession of leather blazers, jeans and sheuxx, and more than a few gold chains and rings.
One thing that’s captured the attention of the audience more than Sandler’s lewks, though, is a diamond-encrusted Furby Ratner is commissioned to make as part of the movie, with the blinding iteration of the cult 90s creature becoming its unofficial mascot and the subject of countless memes.
Now, Uncut Gems’ production house – A24 Films – has released a new line of merch for fans of the movie to get their hands on, and unsurprisingly a replica of the Furby pendant is on the line-up.
Made from gold-plated stainless steel and embellished with Austrian crystals, the piece is extremely limited edition, with only 100 pieces available from the A24 website. Other items from the collection include an Uncut Gems basketball and a zine created by the film’s directors Benny and Josh Safdie.
But if you were thinking of copping one of the hottest accessories of the year, sadly you’re too late – the piece has already sold out online. Time to scour the depths of eBay and Etsy to see what DIY replacement might do.
