Mama Cax, amputee model and activist, dies aged 30

An advocate for inclusivity in the fashion industry, she died following a week-long illness

The model and activist Mama Cax has died aged 30. The news comes in an Instagram statement posted yesterday (December 20), which says that she passed away earlier this week, on December 16.

A cancer survivor and amputee, she was a vocal advocate for inclusivity in fashion and most notably appeared in Rihanna’s second Savage x Fenty show this year.

Her death follows complications from a week-long illness. In an Instagram post last week (December 12), she shared that she had discovered several blood clots in her leg, abdomen, and near a filter near her lungs (part of her earlier cancer treatment). In the post, she also states: “2019 has been one of the best years for me.

Rihanna has expressed condolences in a post that reads: “A queen. A force. A powerhouse beauty…”

Other tributes have poured in from across the fashion and beauty industry, in the comments of the original announcement post.
