As part of an exclusive interview with WWD, Kim Jones confirmed that Dior is collaborating with legendary streetwear label Stüssy, with the offering set to drop at the French label’s Pre-Fall menswear show in Miami tomorrow (December 3).
Having lured founder Shawn Stüssy out of retirement for the project, Jones explained he was excited to be realising something of a teenage dream. “I used to wear (Stüssy) head-to-toe all the time in my teens. It was something I was really, really, really obsessed by,” he told WWD. First clues as to the partnership came via an Instagram video published to the official Dior account, in which Stüssy’s recognisable graffiti-style lettering appears throughout.
Later, Shawn Stüssy took to his own Instagram to express his own enthusiasm for the collaboration. “It has been really hard for me to keep this to myself for six months now… Kim has brought me out of retirement to work with him and his Dior family on Fall 2020 and I gotta say here now how good a vibe and how natural this project has felt for me. Now I am just going to enjoy the next couple days and watch it unfold.”
With Kim Jones having previously collaborated with Supreme while at Louis Vuitton, and the likes of KAWS and Daniel Arsham in his role at the helm of Dior menswear, it goes without saying that the collection is likely to be a runaway success. Stay tuned to see what it looks like when we bring you coverage of the Dior show tomorrow.
