Cindy Sherman appears on the runway at Undercover’s SS20 show

Japanese designer Jun Takahashi joined forces with the American artist again this season, with Sherman’s portraits featuring across a series of looks

Cindy Sherman isn’t perhaps the first name that comes to mind when you think Paris Fashion Week, but the American artist showed up on the runway today – and not for the first time. During Jun Takahashi’s show for his label Undercover, the Japanese designer sent out a series of black tailored looks which featured images of the photographer’s famous self portraits.

Rendered as embroidery on blazers, shirts, and bags, the images were taken from her renowned Untitled Film Stills series, which the artist worked on between 1977 and 1980. In them, Sherman casts herself as a character in various fantasy Hollywood and B-movie films, performing different female roles. Elsewhere, the all-black collection featured Nosferatu motifs, with the famous vampire's figure looming menacingly across garments.

Takahashi has collaborated with Sherman before for his SS18 womenswear collection, which saw models resembling The Shining's Grady twins take to the runway in the blue party dresses and white tights the pair wear in the iconic film.

The artist has had other forays into fashion, too. While she stopped short of hoodies, Sherman recently collaborated with Supreme on a collection of skateboards. She also transformed herself into a street style star in a series of images for Harper’s Bazaar.

The new collection comes right ahead of Sherman’s solo show at The National Portrait Gallery in London – her first in the city since September last year – which Dazed is a proud partner on. Check it out when it opens on June 27, and take a look at the full Undercover gallery above.
