As you’re probably fully aware by now, the theme of both the exhibition and the event itself is ‘camp’, meaning we’re hoping to see plenty of sequins, ruffles, feathers, and general flamboyance from the likes of Frank Ocean, Indya Moore, Donatella Versace, and committee member Harry Styles, who are all set to be in attendance tonight. One person who’s already amped up the camp already, though, is none other than Lady Gaga (but then who else were you expecting it to be?). Though she’s pared things back considerably over the last couple of years, trading in her McQueen Armadillo boots and controversial meat dresses for some altogether more understated looks, at last night’s pre-Met party, Gaga returned to her OTT best. First seen on the runway back at Marc Jacobs’ AW19 show in February, the iconic performer opted for a huge, Pierrot-esque dress, crafted from layers upon layers of frou-frou ruffled chiffon, along with opaque tights, platform boots, and an avant-garde headpiece. In contrast to her voluminous look, Gaga finished everything off with a tiny Delvaux bag – although behind her, her bodyguard was seen carrying her fave Celine tote (and what could be more extra, and therefore camp, than that?). Notably, this is the second time in as many days that Gaga has been seen wearing Marc Jacobs. In a photograph posted to Instagram on Saturday, the singer was captured on her private, New York-bound jet wearing a look from the designer’s notorious Perry Ellis ‘Grunge’ collection, which subsequently saw him get fired from the label in 1993. With all clues pointing towards ‘yes’, are we going to see Gaga emerge onto the red carpet in a full MJ look later this evening? Watch this space.
