adidas Originals is no stranger when it comes to collaborations, recently partnering with Stormzy, Olivia Oblanc, and London’s own Underground, TFL (trainers and a topped-up Oyster card, yes please).
Now, the brand is launching its newly announced MakerLab Presents: Here to Create project, in collaboration with David Beckham and the British Fashion Council (BFC). MakerLab is a creative platform giving emerging designers a global stage to showcase their work, and will kick off with a runway presentation during Paris Men’s Fashion Week.
The three designers working with adidas Originals this season are Priya Ahluwalia, who won the 2018 H&M design award, Paolina Russo, a former Maison Margiela intern under Galliano, whose sports-inspired knitwear was featured on the Solange cover of Dazed’s spring/summer 2018 issue, and Nicholas Daley, whose intimate presentations usually feature live music performances.
Daley, Russo, and Ahluwalia will each create concept footwear designs from adidas Originals’ latest release, SC Premiere. Working with some of Paris’s most prestigious ateliers, including Atelier Gohard, Maison Hikaku, and Renaissance Cuir, the emerging designers will debut their trainers alongside their namesake labels at the MakerLab runway on Friday 18.
First announced in December 2018, MakerLab Presents is committed to furthering education in the design and fashion sector. Alongside the runway show, the creative platform will play host to a series of events during the Paris menswear shows, including educational workshops for design students.
The MakerLab runway show will take place at the Garage Amelot on January 18 at 4pm, tune in to @dazedfashion for live coverage
