Back in 1992, Marc Jacobs was designing at the helm of all-American label Perry Ellis. For his SS93 collection, he put out a series of grunge-themed looks on the likes of Kristen McMenamy, Kate Moss, and Naomi Campbell that led to him being fired due to it being so far from the preppy clothing the label was known for.
Later vindicated, the collection remains one of Jacobs’ most iconic works, so it’s no surprise that the designer has chosen to reissue the SS93 designs for his Resort 2019 entitled ‘Marc Jacobs Redux’.
“The ‘Grunge’ collection epitomised the first time in my professional career I was unwavering in my determination to see my vision come to life on the runway, without creative compromise,” explains Jacobs. Finding redemption, Perry Ellis has now changed its stance saying it was a “first of its kind collection that changed the direction of contemporary womenswear.”
Recreating the entire collection in its original materials – including accessories – and the looks feature include thick-knit cardigans paired with printed chiffon dresses, with Dr. Martens boots. The accompanying lookbook is shot by frequent brand collaborator Juergen Teller and include Jacobs faves like Gigi Hadid, Slick Woods, and Binx Walton – so keep an eye out for them.
The collection is available for preorder now will be released from November 15 online and at select boutiques worldwide.
