Dior is heading to Tokyo for its first ever men’s Pre-Fall show

The collection will be Kim Jones’ second for the Parisian house and will coincide with a pop-up in the city

After Kim Jones presented his debut SS19 menswear collection at Dior earlier this summer, the label has just announced it will hold its first ever men’s Pre-Fall runway show in Tokyo on November 30.

The choice of location serves to celebrate Jones’ admiration for the country, as well as the longstanding bond that unites Japan with the fashion house – which dates back to Christian Dior’s early days, when he drew inspiration from Japanese artist Utamaro and used fabrics from Kyoto’s Tatsumura weaving workshop.

“A fashion show in Tokyo is the best way to present and celebrate my first Dior Pre-Fall men’s show,” explains Jones. “Japan is a magical country that I know quite well and that I love particularly for its incredible and unique culture, history, and nature, which have always been very fascinating and a great source of inspiration to me.”

Just two days before the Pre-Fall collection is set to hit the runway, a Dior pop-up will open at Isetan department store, in the city’s Shinjuku district. The pop-up, open for two weeks from November 28, will reveal the brand’s SS19 collection (the first under Jones’ direction), which will simultaneously go on sale at Dior’s store in Ginza, before launching globally on December 1.
