The newly released shoe is completely leather-free, making it suitable for vegetarians. While the right shoe’s tongue features the classic Stan Smith logo, the left one has a portrait of the designer and her signature beneath. The footwear label’s stripes are also updated in an homage to McCartney, created out of stars instead. McCartney’s logo and signature burgundy and blue band are also featured on the heel. Unsurprisingly, the vegetarian Stan Smith is the first of its kind, but makes total sense for McCartney, who is a longtime vegetarian. The designer has made a long-standing commitment to sustainability since launching her eponymous label; her recently launched Bond Street flagship store has the cleanest air in London, fur-free-fur lined elevators, and even a wall made of her office’s recycled waste-paper. The Stella McCartney x adidas Stan Smith drops today in celebration of the designer’s birthday.
