Fashion / Instagram of the weekFashion / Instagram of the weekThis Instagram kitty has some very fire garmsAnd she’s called Raf, obviouslyShareLink copied ✔️November 7, 2016November 7, 2016Text Emma Hope Allwood @rafthecat Listen, we all need a little joy in our lives, especially at a time when a megalomaniac Austin Powers villain may actually be about to become the leader of 319m people. For me personally, that joy either comes via the regular stream of memes shared by my friends to a dedicated sad-girls-only WhatsApp group, or through looking at kittens on Instagram. If you can empathise with the latter, then have I got a treat for you. Enter @rafthecat, the account dedicated to one cat, and one man’s wardrobe. Started by Austin Lummack (“@fat_austin on Instagram, but really I’m just the guy that takes pictures of his cat in his shoes”), the account exists at the perfect meeting point between two social media universes: cute animals and the braggadocious, rampantly consumerist world of streetwear fit pics and latest pick ups. Lummack’s shots feature a ridiculously cute young Raf posed on the likes of Vetements, Gosha Rubchinskiy, Supreme and Palace, as well as hanging out in a variety of hypey kicks. HEART EYES EMOJI. “I posted some pictures of her in a pair of Raf Simons and a pair of Rick Owens on Twitter and they kinda blew up,” explains Lummack. “So I made this thinking people wanted to see a cute kitten in nice shoes and I’ve just kept it going ever since.” Raf’s favourite brand is (no suprises here) her namesake – Raf Simons, though she also occasionally forgoes her love of the Belgian youth culture pioneer to cosy up to the work of today’s new guard. Palace jackets are a particular favourite, which Lummack says she’s “weirdly in love with”, and, showing her taste for the intersection of streetwear and high fashion, Raf deems the Total Fucking Darkness Vetements sweatsuit the most snuggle-worthy. We can only assume she exists solely on a diet of caviar and/or treats from Dover Street Market’s Rose Bakery. Happy Monday. Escape the algorithm!
