“WHEN BALMAIN ARMY BECOMES BEY ARMY,” writes a clearly very excited Olivier Rousteing, captioning a video of Beyoncé performing “Countdown” in one of his designs, at the premiere of The Formation World Tour in Miami last night.

Custom-made by Balmain, Beyoncé’s bodysuit is hewn from French lace, hand-embroidered with pearls and stones and complete with a Victorian-inspired gem brooch on the chest, and crystal-embellished silk ruffles on the sleeves. Her backing dancers wear similar body suits with gold leather belts.

It’s not surprising that Rousteing is excited: since taking over Balmain in 2011, he’s become known for the relationships he’s forged with pop culture icons. From Rihanna to Kardashians, Jenners and Hadids, and big-name Victoria’s Secret models, he’s wielded these icons’ mainstream cachet and vast social media reach to bring to the world of Balmain to a new, younger audience. “I want to communicate my vision to people,” he told us last year. “And nothing better than pop to communicate with, you know?”

Last night was the first of her 41-show world tour in support of her new album Lemonade, which was released on Saturday. Her 37-song set included tracks from six of her albums, including Lemonade, and a tribute to Prince, who died last week. If the reviews in the press and on social media are anything to go by, she slayed.
