Look no further. Baron, the wickedly perverse publisher (soon to debut twisted sister mag Baroness) are releasing the Designers at Baron collection – and have invited three London names to turn their talents to a series of t-shirts. There’s Martine Rose’s Glory Hole design featuring Max Allen, Sebastiaan Pieter’s No Strings Attached tee (perfect for your next Craigslist casual encounter), and finally some erotic animals by Claire Barrow. See them all in the accompanying photoshoot by Edith Bergfors, starring Tallulah Harlech, and read on for what happened when we probed the designers on safewords, (not so) guilty pleasures and what gets their pulses racing. MARTINE ROSE How did you approach designing your t-shirt? Martine Rose: I had some great archive imagery from Steve Terry, I knew pretty much straight away when I was asked to do the project the imagery that I wanted to use as a base. Then I worked with Klaus Schmitt and Max Allen to reinterpret the image. I mean, who wouldn’t love to wear a glory hole t-shirt?! Who’s your favourite pervert? Martine Rose: Smokey – not technically a pervert but he has a song called ‘Piss Slave’ – I wanna be your toilet. Great song, so that must count for something. What’s your favourite depiction of transgressive sex on screen? Martine Rose: Kenneth Anger’s Scorpio Rising – there is no sex but the suggestion is enough. Name something that gets your pulse racing? Martine Rose: Lots of choice in the reduced section of Tesco. Pick a fashion-themed safe word? Martine Rose: Hahaha – erm, Karl Lagerfeld! What’s your not-so-guilty pleasure? Martine Rose: Netflix and chill. Martine Rose for Designers at BaronPhotography Edith Bergfors SEBASTIAAN PIETER How did you approach designing your t-shirt? Sebastiaan Pieter: It just made sense for a one-off collaboration... ‘no strings attached’. Where should people go wearing it? Sebastiaan Pieter: Public urinals, the Tate Modern, somewhere on the Spanish coast. What do Baron and Baroness mean to you? Sebastiaan Pieter: Something I keep in my bedroom but also share with friends. Who’s your favourite pervert? Sebastiaan Pieter: RuPaul. What’s your favourite depiction of transgressive sex on screen? Sebastiaan Pieter: It’s not really sex but I watch gogo dancers online. What’s your not-so-guilty pleasure? Sebastiaan Pieter: Showering at the gym. Claire Barrow: Baron asked me to do this and I already had a done this drawing which would be perfect for it so I submitted it straight away. Where should people go wearing it? Claire Barrow: Anywhere – bed, on a date, to the shops, to McDonald’s. What do Baron and Baroness mean to you? Claire Barrow: Fashion and sex not taken too seriously, or done differently to how sex is usually portrayed in fashion... What’s your favourite depiction of transgressive sex on screen? Claire Barrow: Hmm, maybe The Devils by Ken Russell with the nuns, or the Roman orgy in Caligula. Titanic was a pretty good one back in the day, I remember feeling very shy watching that when it first came out. Most Hollywood sexy sex scenes turn me on a bit actually. Name something that gets your pulse racing? Claire Barrow: Tim Roth. Pick a fashion-themed safeword? Claire Barrow: Yeezy yeezy yeezy (get it?). What’s your not-so-guilty pleasure? Claire Barrow: Sex.
