Celebrations began with an hard-edged anniversary collection modelled by the designer’s muses Hanne Gaby, Anna Ewers and Dazed cover star Binx Walton. The Wang gang marched down the runway of his Pier 94 show venue, to the beat of LeiKeli47, Lady Leshurr and a remix of M.I.A’s “Bad Girls”. At the end of the show, a trippy video montage (see below) of his most iconic moments to date was projected onto an enormous screen in front of the audience. As the video drew to a close, the designer himself emerged and ran exuberantly down the catwalk, clearly ecstatic. Soon after, doors opened to the party venue: a space that resembled a seedy New York strip club, complete with red lights and pole dancers. On each of the dancer’s podiums was a towel, a hairband and a Dettol-like spray with Wang’s face on the label. The performers of the night were none other than Tinashe, Ludacris and Lil Wayne, who was introduced by Wang himself – instructing the audience to chug their drinks and go crazy as he welcomed him to the stage. While news of the termination of his contract with Balenciaga was recently announced, this show came with a resounding message: Alexander Wang, the man and the brand, has a great past and a bright future.
