Cinema's hottest enfant terrible models for Louis Vuitton

Xavier Dolan is shot by Alasdair McLellan for the brand’s latest campaign

French-Canadian director Xavier Dolan has been announced as the latest face of Louis Vuitton. At just 26, Dolan has already won an award at Cannes Film Festival and earned himself the nickname of “cinema’s hottest enfant terrible”. Now, wearing the brand’s AW15 collection, the director has been shot by British photographer Alasdair McLellan for the brand’s AW15 campaign.

“I’ve fondly dreamed of becoming the face of an important brand since I was a child, in the same way that others dream of becoming an astronaut,” said Dolan. “I dreamed of this as I first and foremost dreamed of becoming an actor and would look up at these huge posters of celebrities while driving along motorways or crossing under bridges.”

“That I am today the face of Louis Vuitton almost seems like a twist of fate,” he continued. “You dream back to front, wanting the rewards before putting the work in. And then you work, get on with life and just sometimes these childhood dreams have a way of catching up with you. This is a true privilege for which I am eternally grateful.”

The young auteur has achieved a lot in his relatively short career. He’s succeeded in making five features in five years, including psychological thriller Tom at the Farm and drama Mommy, which starred Dazed 100 actor Antoine Olivier Pilon (the latter of which received a nine-minute standing ovation at Cannes).

But it’s not the first time Kim Jones has tapped a man of the silver screen: for SS15, the designer chose Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts to star in the brand’s campaign. As for the AW15 collection itself, Jones drew inspiration from British designer Christopher Nemeth, who belonged to The House of Beauty and Culture, a craft collective at the heart of London’s club scene in the 80s.
