It was a dramatic chop by hairdresser Julien d’ys in 1989 that propelled Canadian model Linda Evangelista from plain old success to the dizzying heights of supermodel stardom, transforming her into an icon of the decade to come. Famed for constantly changing her look (and her hair colour) as well as her longstanding role as a muse to photographer Steven Meisel and designers including Gianni Versace and Karl Lagerfeld, the woman who wouldn’t wake up for less than $10,000 remains one of the most infamous models of all time. Today she turns 50 and, all clichés aside, remains as beautiful as ever – as her recent turn on the Met Gala red carpet in Moschino showed.
