Voyagez!: Kim Jones takes us on a colourful trip to India with a love letter to JaipurShareLink copied ✔️June 26, 2014FashionShowPhotographyLea ColomboTextIsabella BurleyLouis Vuitton SS15 Initial reaction: A love letter to Jaipur – the pink city built by the King Sawai Jai Singh – that took us back to the 70s and was soundtracked by Kate Bush. Kim Jones, ever the explorer: Travel has always been at the core of Creative Director Kim Jones's vision for Vuitton. Whilst a year ago for his SS14 collection he took us on a nostalgic road trip from East coast to West coast, this season the collection was inspired by his travel in Northwestern India. The influence was felt in the colour palette (warm orange, rich blue and vivid pink), and the mirrored embroidery that covered garments, a reworking of the classic Indian Shisha technique. The theme of exploration was translated into safari shirts, belted jackets, and bombers with ‘Volez! Voguez! Voyagez!’, or ‘Fly! Sail! Travel!’ patches on the chest. Fuchsia jumpsuits and flares: The collection was palpably 70s, with high waisted flared trousers worn with trainers. Wide-collared shirts patterned with graphic retro zig-zags were inspired by Indian jockeys, whilst pilot-style jumpsuits in shiny fuchsia fabric and sand coloured suede were a 70s nod to the 'Volez' part of Jones's call to adventure. The soundtrack to Louis Vuitton SS15: Last season, Jones transported the luxury label to South America.
