First up is Simone Rocha, who talks through the SS14 collection she submitted for the competition (you can read our Dazed review of her show here). "This collection is an exploration of fabric and texture," she says, before explaining how she balanced the modern fabric like neoprene and perspex with old-fashioned handicraft like crochet and lace. "Originally the collection was inspired by Ireland; I was swimming in the sea and that made fabric have a wet feel to them, like coated laces." Over 1,200 designers applied for a chance to win the prize, which includes €300,000 (about £250,000) in funding and commercial guidance from a special team of LVMH advisors.
