"Doing a pink story but using so many pink and pastel colours... it verges on the fetishistic and grotesque," explains Dazed's fashion director Robbie Spencer. "But cult grunge era supermodel Kirsten Owen was able to give the looks effortless credibility; the candy pink shots became understated."
Inspired by just how prominent pink was for AW13, Spencer says he wanted the collections special issue – made up of four shoots from Dan Jackson and Alastair McKimm, Gregory Harris and Tony Irvine and Andrea Spotorno and Mattias Karlsson – to be about interpreting the collections in a "very literal, OTT way. It's an overdose of each trend."
To coincide with the story, we're sharing Robbie's inspirations here. A melting pot of iconic pink moments in fashion – from Audrey Hepburn’s floral 50s shoots to Christian Dior’s “New Look” silhouette of the same decade to cinematographic Fellini stills – all of which were used as a stimulus to "twist and reinterpret."
