AW13’s freshest faces were rocking Saint Laurent’s Cali grunge collection. Here, made up in Yves Saint Laurent Beauté by the illustrious Inge Grognard, they tell all about busted curfews and teenage hair disasters.

When do you feel most beautiful?

On the runway or at a photoshoot, when everyone else has done my hair and make-up and dressed me. Hehe.

What's your beauty philosophy - understated or overstated?
Understated.

Tell us about your biggest teenage beauty disaster?
I am still a teenager, so I'm waiting for it.

What music was blasting out of your bedroom as a teenager?
Pop.

Ariel Pink.

What is the most rebellious thing you have ever done?
I have done too many to know which was the most rebellious.

What are your memories of the Saint Laurent menswear show?
The Saint Laurent show was the most exhilarating experience I’ve had so far in the fashion world and I’ll remember it forever. The memories are already pretty nostalgic. I still find myself verbalising the beat from the music every now and then without noticing... I think it’s been permanently ingrained in my brain!

What is working with Hedi Slimane like?
Working with Hedi is always a privilege. Every time we shoot, it feels more like I’ve just been hanging out with a friend than doing a photoshoot all day.

When did you get your first piercing?
When I turned 11. I remember going to a piercing place to get it done, and asking to have my right ear pierced. The guy doing the piercing told me, ‘Not sure if you care, but people are gonna think you’re gay if you are walking around with your right ear pierced.’ I said, ‘...So?’

What are your memories of the Saint Laurent show?
The music is embedded in my skull. It played throughout the fittings and the rehearsal and backstage, over and over.

What was your favourite item?
I liked my leather outfit. It fitted me perfectly. I would describe that look as ‘controlled grunge’.

When do you feel most beautiful?
This is a tough question! I suppose when I’m working with a great photographer and the images turn out amazing, that’s when I feel most beautiful.

What’s your beauty philosophy - understated or overstated?
Just do and feel what makes you happy. A happy person is a beautiful person.

What is the most rebellious thing you’ve ever done?
Driving 150km/h in a 50km/h zone at 2am. It made a lot of noise and disturbed the neighbours, and then I got fined. I highly regret this now.

Sonic Youth.

What was your favourite item from the Saint Laurent show?
The shoes were killer.

When do you feel most beautiful?
Usually when I haven’t tried to look beautiful.

What is the best beauty advice you have ever been given?
Confidence is everything. 

What is the most rebellious thing you’ve ever done?
Yikes! Consistently sneaking out of my house in odd hours of the night to do what teenagers do.

Leather jacket.

When I was 14.

Enough times to have a great time!

When I have no make-up on and my hair is messy.

Understated; I like to keep it simple.

I was all about the pop.

Got a crazy piercing!

Bangs... I would cut them myself.

Hardly ever; I did my best to stay out of trouble.

What was your favourite item from the Saint Laurent show?
The black coat Julia Nobis was wearing. It reminded me of the evil characters from The Triplets of Belleville (aka Belleville Rendez-vous).

What’s your beauty philosophy - understated or overstated?
I am really understated - I barely brush my hair.

When do you feel most beautiful?
During the first five minutes in the morning, before I get out of bed.

Both.

Biggest teenage beauty disaster?
I had dyed my hair pink, blue and white, and most of it fell out so I shaved my head. It wasn’t pretty.

When did you get your first piercing?
I was 15.
