Model Behaviour: Marine Van Outryve

The angelic 18-yo model chats to us about her first ever show and personal style

“I was a little scared the first time, but I am fine now,” says Marine Van Outryve (One Management) of her first catwalk appearance. At just 18 years old she has walked for Calvin Klein, Vivienne Westwood and Erdem, amongst others. The typical nomadic lifestyle of a model Espirit’s SS13 collection could have been designed just for her.

For Dazed’s new issue, our very own Nell Kalonji captures the youthful charm of the collection in an ethereal editorial. Under the soft glow of the camera’s light the dazzlingly angelic models Van Outryve and Agata Rudko are the quintessence of Esprit’s bohemian adventurers. Exclusively for Dazed Digital, we produced Katia Ganfield’s behind-the-scenes short film.

On the back of a hazy hippie thought, the socially-conscious label Esprit was launched in 1968. It was the brainchild of Susie Bell and Douglas Tompkins. Their story is a cinema-worthy romance - back in 1963, Bell, while driving her VW beetle down Route 89, picked up hitchhiker Tompkins and after six months, and a very short engagement, they were married. Five years later they’d launched their West Coast label. For spring they looked to travel and adventure for inspiration of jet set-ready pieces moulded around a palate of muted earth tones, contrasting corals, and rich greens. The capsule collection is all skinny jeans, oversized shirts, crisp tees, Bretton tops and bowler hats.
