Buoyed by the world's craving for Versace and several strong menswear seasons that returned to the houses true spirit, Donatella Versace pushed things further this season with a barely-there line-up designed for the poolside and a selection of tailoring for going to dinner in afterwards. Part gladiator, part Rocky heavyweight champion, the mood was unapologetically upbeat, the runway a vision of a designer confident in her stride and having fun. "I love Donatella – and she is feeling loved at the moment if the champion imagery that wove through this collection is anything to go by. In the show notes she mentioned other kings of their game – Elvis and Mr. T! Though the line-up was very much an ode to under and swimwear, which the house is relaunching. Having been referenced and desired so much in fashion culture over the past year, the house of Versace continues to stand atop its gilded pedestal. Expect to see those winner belts everywhere. And more broadly, that vivid metallic blue, which also appeared at Burberry Prorsum. We're only a few shows in but it already looks like being colour of the season."
