January beckons us back into the arena of adulthood, as 2026 opens in Capricorn season, strengthening our resolve to clean up the holiday debris and get back to business. Capricorn is the most evolved of the earth signs and understands the merit of hard work, strategy and delayed gratification. No sign is better equipped to execute a New Year’s resolution, as the Sea-Goat is the ambitious powerhouse that propels us forward. Capricorn rules our legacy, our reputations and our work out in the wider world. Ruled by Saturn, the harbinger of time and responsibility, we are motivated to stay busy, receiving a much-needed dose of discipline and practicality.

Mercury enters Capricorn on the 1st, helping us set our sights on the trajectory of the year ahead, commanding us to handle the day-to-day details that need our attention. While it may sound somber, and at times we can be cynical or serious, we’re certainly getting stuff done.

On the 3rd, the Full Moon in Cancer may bring up a desire for safety or repressed emotions, as it illuminates Capricorn’s opposing axis, showing us where we have been neglecting our needs in an effort to leave our mark on the world. You may notice a clearer sense of where you are overextending yourself or trying to prove something that no longer needs proving. Rebalance and recalibrate accordingly, and try to find the sweet spot between showing up for the world and showing up for yourself.

When Venus moves into Aquarius on the 17th, we are more independent in our interpersonal affairs, craving space and connections that feel mentally stimulating rather than emotionally heavy. With Pluto in Aquarius here, dynamics that feel restrictive start to crumble, while unconventional bonds thrive.

A New Moon in the sign of the Sea Goat on the 18th bodes well for making conscious intentions for our careers in the upcoming year. As the Sun and Moon come together in Capricorn, there is a growing awareness of what is sustainable and what is not. This might be the moment to reaffirm our New Year’s resolutions, as this New Moon is about doing the work, showing up and keeping promises to yourself.

The biggest shift in January is Neptune’s entry into Aries on the 26th, a moment that signals an awakening of willpower after a long period of psychic fog and confusion. This shift favours bold gestures, new artistic mediums, and unapologetic self-expression.

Aquarius season begins on the 19th, shifting the focus from obligation to innovation. After weeks of Capricorn realism, the energy lightens and looks forward, asking us to do things differently. This is a cerebral, future-facing moment that favours originality, freedom and ideas that challenge the status quo. This is supported by a sextile between Saturn and Uranus on the 20th, which creates a powerful corridor between the old world and the new one we are approaching in 2026. As these are outer planets, they incite a collective upgrade that is preparing us for a change of guard. Our structures and systems start to evolve, and long-term plans receive a voltage of insight.

This Saturn–Uranus moment on the 20th also clears scarcity programming. Uranus in Taurus disrupts the survival narratives we’ve been living inside of, while Saturn in Pisces dissolves the fear-based stories we’ve inherited about not having enough, not being enough, or needing to suffer to be worthy. The grip of old conditioning around money, safety and self-trust begins to loosen, as we start to recognise abundance as something we can build and receive, not something we have to chase or prove.

Mercury moves into the awakener Aquarius on the 20th, followed by Mars on the 24th, and the atmosphere shifts quickly. Our thoughts and movements become more unpredictable, more experimental, less concerned with approval. We stop shaping ourselves to fit existing frameworks and start questioning why those frameworks exist at all. There is a growing resistance to being defined by the status quo, paired with a hunger for what comes next. Ideas feel electric and future-oriented, as this is the time for rebels with a cause.

The biggest shift in January is Neptune’s entry into Aries on the 26th, a moment that signals an awakening of willpower after a long period of psychic fog and confusion. Neptune’s 14-year passage through Pisces taught us how to release control, soften our edges, and trust forces larger than ourselves, but also blurred boundaries and delayed momentum. As Neptune crosses into Aries, the lesson changes. Neptune in Aries ignites the archetype of the warrior and stirs a deep, instinctual urge to live out our dreams rather than merely imagine them. This shift favours bold gestures, new artistic mediums, and unapologetic self-expression. It’s edgier, louder and more confrontational. With Neptune in Aries, we are propelled out of inaction and back into the body, as we enter a year of fearless creativity.
