WHY IS IT SO GOOD?
Even when I’m not wearing make-up, I like to have something on my lips. Usually I’ll just go for a tinted lip balm, but most of the ones I’ve used end up just sitting on top of my skin without really sinking in, or making my lips feel even drier. I’ve been looking for something new for my lips that’s easy to use day-to-day, looks good, and actually keeps them hydrated – without shelling out over £10 (which rules out the Dior lip oils).
I think I’ve finally found what I’m looking for in NYX Cosmetics’s new Fat Oil Lip Drip. I stumbled across it on my TikTok FYP about a month ago, and normally, I’d at least try to resist being influenced. But this was a fellow brown-skinned girl using a lip colour which suited her complexion perfectly, and I always seem to struggle to find natural-looking lip colours that go well with my skin tone. So, after seeing this girl on TikTok rave about how these NYX lip oils really worked on brown skin, and how moisturised it made her lips feel, I dipped into Superdrug as soon as I could to get my hands on one.
I picked it up in the shade ‘That’s Chic’ – a deep plum shade that looked intimidatingly dark in the bottle, but I’d been assured by TikTok that it would sheer out once applied. It does exactly that – one swipe of the oversized applicator leaves a subtle (but definitely still noticeable) wash of colour on my lips which instantly makes my whole face look more awake. It’s buildable, so I’ll apply a few layers or swipe it over my lipstick if I’m going out out. The formula is great too – it’s not sticky, doesn’t transfer, and genuinely leaves my lips feeling soft and moisturised. It also smells like berries, which is an added bonus. I’ve already got my eye on another shade – ‘Follow Back’, which is a warm, peachy nude.
I’d recommend this product to anyone who, like me, is obsessed with keeping their lips moisturised – and especially anyone with darker skin who struggles to find lip shades that work for them!
QUICKFIRE QUESTIONS
The fictional character who would use this is... I can see Dionne from Clueless applying three layers of this before a trip to the mall with Cher – and obsessively reapplying it throughout the day.
If I was communicating to an alien only using hand gestures, I would describe it by... blowing them a kiss.
If I went back in time, the historical figure I would give this product to... Queen Elizabeth I – her lips must have been so dry with all the lead she put on them.
