May all your dreams cum true: how to manifest through orgasm

The O method is going viral on TikTok – but how exactly does orgasmic manifestation work?

In recent years, manifestation has gone mainstream. The hashtag #manifestation on TikTok has a staggering 22 billion views, and the app is full of short clips instructing viewers on how they can use the practice to achieve their goals.

There’s no one way to manifest, and the app is full of different methods that budding manifestors can use to make their dreams come true. There’s the 3-6-9 method, for example, which recommends writing down a positive affirmation three times in the morning, six times in the day, and nine times at night. Or there’s the pillow method, which suggests writing down your wishes on a piece of paper to keep under your pillow.

Most recently, ‘the O method’ has gone viral on TikTok, with videos tagged ‘manifesting with o method’ racking up nearly 10 million views. As the name suggests, the O method – also known as orgasmic manifestation, or sexual transmutation – essentially involves harnessing the power of the female orgasm to bring your ambitions to life. “This is a very powerful, simple, natural method to manifest,” TikTok user Amanda Rose says in one popular video about the O method.

“Orgasmic manifestation is harnessing sexual energy to create change. Our orgasms have incredible potency and can connect us with so much,” Kristen J. Sollée, author of Witches, Sluts, Feminists: Conjuring the Sex Positive, tells Dazed. “Think of it like a supercharged vision board. You use the moment of release during orgasm to attract what you desire.”

This isn’t just some TikTok fad, either. Sex magic dates back thousands of years, with its roots in Eastern tantric practices from the first millenium. Tantra, a Hindu and Buddhist philosophy that spread across Asia in the 8th century, sees the world as imbued with a divine feminine energy known as ‘shakti’ – and in tantric opinion, you can tap into this powerful energy at the point of orgasm. Sex magic made its way to the west much later, in the 20th century. By the 80s and 90s, French spiritualist Margot Anand began to write books about how couples could channel sexual energy into other areas of their lives.

Now, thanks to TikTok, the concept of orgasmic manifestation has gone viral. So – how exactly do you do it? “As you climax, send all that energy out toward your goal. Say, if you want more abundance in your life, the moment you come you might imagine cash raining down all over you or see yourself walking into your dream job,” she explains. “Fully embody the pleasure you’re having as you conjure up the imagery of what you want to manifest.”

It makes sense. Physiologically speaking, orgasm has a range of mental and physical benefits: by flooding our bodies with ‘happy’ chemicals like serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin, orgasms have the power to improve our cognition, diminish anxiety and stress, and boost our moods. And, obviously, when you’re feeling calm, confident, and happy, it’s a lot easier to focus on your personal goals, whatever they may be.

However, there are pitfalls to practising orgasmic manifestation, and it’s certainly not a ‘quick fix’. Obviously, the universe will not dump a life-changing opportunity on your lap if you’re just passively waiting for it to happen: “it’s vital if you’re doing magical work to also do the mundane work,” Sollée says. “If you want to change your financial state, you still need to be applying for jobs in your day to day or analysing your spending habits. If you want more self-love in your life, you still need to go to therapy and address trauma and perspectives around self-worth.”

As Sollée puts it: “the ritual itself is but one vibrant thread in the magical tapestry.” But it’s at least worth giving it a go – after all, even if none of your wishes end up coming true, at least you’ll have a great time trying to make it happen.
