July 2021 horoscope: it’s Cancer season and things are getting emotional

The month of the Crab brings connection to our earliest emotional experiences and exposes any negative relationships in life. Tune in and practice self-care, baby!

July begins in the empathic, sensitive sign of the Crab. It’s Cancer season, where we are encouraged to reconnect with our homes and our hearts. Cancer, the first water sign of the zodiac, corresponds to our earliest emotional experiences, and we are looking for a sense of security, safety, and seclusion. It’s the perfect time to tune into your emotional body, and direct self care towards your inner landscape. Matters of the home, family, and femininity are highlighted. It’s time for us to TAKE CARE of ourselves and each other.

Cancer season tunes our focus away from the cerebral in an era of information, and instead towards our emotional landscapes. Mercury is newly direct, prompting us to start heart-to-heart conversations and lead with our sensitivity. On July 1, war planet Mars in fiery Leo squares Saturn, indicating an air of conflict in our interpersonal relationships. We are looking for self expression, but all perspectives and sides need to be accounted for. Venus then opposes Saturn on July 6, once again, exposing where we feel restricted and bound in our connections with others. We are encouraged to take advice from the sign of the Crab, and lead with love, empathy, and compassion.

A New Moon in Cancer on the 9th encourages us to set intentions around the kind of emotional reciprocity we need from our fellows and prompts us to tune into our emotions. This is a powerful date to call in new feelings and intentions around how we are nourished and nurtured. Messenger planet Mercury then joins the Sun in Cancer on the 11th, helping us vocalise our emotions and adding some intuitive ability to our cerebral spaces.

On July 21, pleasure planet Venus enters pragmatic Virgo, helping us choose relationships that are healing over the chaotic climate we have been in. Here, our love language is action, and we are eager to be helpful and smart in our dealings with others. The Sun then enters the sign of Leo on July 22, and the bold season of the Lion commences. Here we are eager to express ourselves, creatively and romantically. We have abandoned the seclusion of Cancer and we are ready to roar; themes of play, theatrics, and self love are highlighted.

The month culminates with a Full Moon in Aquarius on the 23rd, encouraging us to release fears around the collective experience, and try to remove what is excess from our mission to the world at large. It's a good time to check in with our place in our communities and examine where we might be behaving to suit the expectations of others – rather than honouring our own creative, unique spark. Mercury then gallavants into Leo on the 27th, imbuing our verbal expression with a sense of self-assuredness and self-ownership.
