This could be your lucky day! Youtube sensation and drama magnet James Charles will host a new beauty competition series it has been announced. Teaming up with YouTube for the video platform’s first original competition, the four-part series – currently working under the title James Charles Instant Influencer – premieres in spring 2020 and will see Charles team up with his friends in the beauty industry to judge six aspiring make-up artists. At the end of the weekly series, the winner will be given a $50,000 cash prize. “James Charles is a leader in the industry when it comes to pushing boundaries with creative content,” Susanne Daniels, global head of original content for YouTube, said in a statement. “We are thrilled that James is bringing his energy and talent to our YouTube Originals slate with our first beauty competition series.” In the series, which Charles will also be directing and executive producing, finalists will compete in challenges that test not only their “artistry and uniqueness” but also their “ability to captivate an audience” to find out if they really have “what it takes” to be an influencer. (What does it take? We’re interested to know yourselves!) “Reality competition shows have always been a guilty pleasure of mine, and ever since I became a content creator on YouTube, it’s been one of my biggest dreams to create my own,” said Charles. “Being a superstar influencer takes a whole lot more than just blending eye shadow, and I can’t wait to find out who has what it takes to make it to the top.” For those interested in applying, you must be a resident of the US, be over the age of 18 and have an “active” YouTube channel. The six successful applicants will then be flown over to Los Angeles to compete in the show. Find out more here.
