Tomorrow (June 7) is the last opportunity that we have to register to vote in the EU referendum, the decision that the country will make on June 23 to stay in or leave the European Union. Polls currently put the “Leave” campaign slightly ahead, with YouGov releasing figures suggesting that 73 per cent of 18 to 29-year-olds want to stay, whereas 65 per cent of over 60s want to leave.

The problem is that old people are far more likely to vote than our generation, meaning that the referendum – the outcome of which will affect us for years to come – could end up being dictated by people who, to be blunt, may not be around that much longer. The younger you are, the more important this is.

Because of the nature of politics and the way it’s presented – boorish dudes in bad suits shouting over one another – it can often feel like another world, a party that to which we aren’t invited and wouldn’t want to go to anyway. But this is a moment where it’s vital that we turn out.

We’re not really totally sure what the implications of Britain leaving the European Union would be, because no-one is, not even economic forecasters who predict these outcomes for a living. The EU has problems, sure and there are some experts that believe Brexit to be the ultimate left-wing choice. But if we did leave then our ease of mobility across Europe would be reduced, we’d risk giving rise to divisive and dangerous far-right political parties and Boris Johnson may become our Prime Minister. So you know, some food for thought.

Please register to vote here – it takes just a few minutes – we want to know where your vote is going and if you aren’t voting then we’d love to know why.
