Quite possibly. That makes you a millennial, a thinktank-generated word that endlessly finds its way into trend forecasting reports and behavioural studies. The latest investigation into the mindset of our generation comes from the Pew Research Center and specifically targets those on the other side of the Atlantic – Americans. The study, titled Generations In A Mirror: How They See Themselves, found that our generation doesn’t think well of itself – 59 per cent consider millennials to be "self-absorbed", perhaps no surprise given the infinite number of tools available at our disposal that help us to appear narcissistic. 49 per cent describe their generation as wasteful and 43 per cent say we’re greedy. Basically, we’re far more likely to speak ill of ourselves than any other age group and self-identify as "cynical" more than any other generation too. On the plus side, millennials are far more tolerant of LGBT issues, interracial marriage and immigration, but yet we still don’t credit our generation as particularly liberal. Only 33 per cent would use the word "tolerant" to describe this generation. Considering millennials are set to be financially worse off than the previous generation, faced with increasingly expensive education and thrashing around in a fiercely competitive job market, we should give ourselves more credit. I’m sure if our parents had Instagram they’d have used it too. Escape the algorithm! Get The DropEmail address SIGN UP Get must-see stories direct to your inbox every weekday.
