Opening on October 14 during Frieze Week, the show brings together a coterie of visionary names, including: Andy Warhol, Nan Goldin, Arthur Jafa, Pipilotti Rist, Mark Leckey, Martine Syms, Derek Jarman, Dara Birnbaum, Julianknxx, Sophia Al-Maria, Foday Dumbuya, Ryan Trecartin, Josèfa Ntjam, Tremaine Emory, Cao Fei, Meriem Bennani, and Telfar TV. Looking back to look forward, Paradigm Shift traces multiple revolutions within moving image culture. From Warhol Fashion TV in the 1970s to TELFAR TV today, the screen is a stage where everyone can be a broadcaster, commentator, performer, and artist. The technology-focused exhibition unpacks how artists use screens to perform, distort and reimagine identity, from Super 8 film and VHS loops, to phone clips and AI glasses with Ray-Ban Meta. Curated by Dazed co-founder and CEO Jefferson Hack and Mark Wadhwa at 180 Studios, the exhibition reveals how the moving image has always been a tool for cultural rebellion and self-mythology. “From the Super 8 and VHS revolutions of the 70s and 80s to the digital hyper connectivity of our present moment, video art and moving image has always operated at a crossroads: high and low, visceral and conceptual, personal and political,” Hack tells Dazed. “In Paradigm Shift, we see how great artists inspire us to engage with storytelling through screens differently: for us to feel more, imagine more and recover our senses.” The exhibition is hosted in partnership with Ray-Ban Meta, the #1 selling AI glasses. The specs are a seamless fusion of iconic Ray-Ban style and cutting-edge technology, offering users hands-free video, messaging, calling, and built-in Meta AI. If you’re keen to get your hands on a pair, the next generation of Ray-Ban Meta is available now on meta.com and Ray-Ban.com. Dazed and AnOther have ten pairs of tickets up for grabs for you and a friend to attend the exhibition’s exclusive private view at 180 Strand on October 13.
