In January, wildfires blazed through California. Exacerbated by the drought conditions and the parched Santa Ana winds, the flames devastated huge swathes of LA County, with the Palisades and Altadena being hardest hit. Raging from January 7 to 31, the blaze claimed the lives of at least 29 people, destroyed in excess of 18,000 homes, caused the evacuation of more than 200,000 people and burned over 57,000 acres of land. But not all the losses are quantifiable…. The communities, the memories, the density of cultural history and landmarks, the displacement of families, the destruction of schools, arts venues, and community spaces, the list feels endless and insurmountably sad.

A new print sale has just launched and will run until 9 March 2025, pledging to raise funds to help those affected by the catastrophic fires. California Picture Project has brought together images from an exciting list of renowned photographers, artists, designers, stylists and filmmakers. For $150, you could own a print by the likes of Gabriel Moses, Carlijn Jacobs, Gia Coppola, Sofia Coppola, Micaiah Carter, Martine Syms, Mowalola, Nadia Lee Cohen, Troye Sivan, and many, many more.

100 per cent of net proceeds from the sale will benefit the California Community Foundation Wildfire Recovery Fund, dedicated to providing critical assistance to the individuals, families and communities most in need. Niki Roberton, one of the LA-based music executives and creative directors behind the fundraiser recently told the Los Angeles Times, “When [the LA wildfires] initially happened, I think we were all shell-shocked. It displaced friends, parents at our daughter’s school had lost their homes. We were desperate to find a way to volunteer. But we had Spike Jonze and Sofia Coppola and Dave Free, these incredible creatives that were keen to join us. This was the most immediate way for our skill sets to be able to help.”
