We love to highlight Dazed Club creatives so much, we do it every month! Meet them here...
Dazed Club Spotlight is our monthly series showcasing up-and-coming talent from the Dazed creative community. If you’d like to be featured, download the app HERE and join our community. You just have to post your best project(s) and the Dazed team will take a look – we select one person from the community to spotlight per week, which then end up in our monthly spotlight roundup.
“The exhibition is a collaboration between myself and local fashion designer Dylan Furness. Dylan is wanting to launch his brand and I have just finished my master’s degree in Gaming and Extended Reality, where I focused on how brands are using XR technologies to bring consumers into physical spaces. I wanted to create my own event, and Dylan has a strong brand aesthetic that I thought would be perfect for world-building. Our aim is to bring Dylan’s collection to life using my knowledge of XR tech to create an immersive and unique experience, completely transporting visitors to the world of Dylan’s designs. The exhibition includes AR-enhanced photography, a mixed reality headset game, sensory experiences and a sculptural display of Dylan’s clothing.
“I mainly find inspiration for my work through research; I love using WGSN Insights to explore how technology is being used in marketing. I want to stay ahead and find that reading trend reports helps with this. I also follow lots of amazing creatives online and try to visit exhibitions in person. I love collaboration and find that my biggest inspiration is always my collaborator – Dylan has pushed my creative skills in a way where I’ve been able to realise an event that does justice to his incredible designs.” – @lilsvtaylor

“My garments spur on new creative ideas that I then use to reinforce my imagined world. I do this through photography, illustration, video and whatever else piques my interest. This project was to round up a series of garments I was working on. I needed to visually convey the world that my clothes come from but I didn’t have the means to do a photoshoot. Instead, I used illustration and digital collage as an alternative. Techniques that go into making a project like this range from pattern cutting and sewing to Photoshop and Illustrator.
“My inspirations vary wildly. Drawing attention to a few recurring inspirations of mine, I’d include the rich heritage that spans across my family, community-specific to queerness and culture, nightlife and the ‘club kids of today’ as I would call them. And finally, learning crafts or techniques specific to garment making.” – @reuben.harris
“I’m a Swiss-North African designer based in London, dedicated to pushing the boundaries of traditional graphic design to reimagine our world in a more inclusive way. As a socially engaged designer, I explore identities and cultural representations through a decolonial feminist lens. Using art direction, photography, and publication design, I strive to empower marginalised communities and foster community.
“This series of portraits is part of The Ordinary Swiss project which explores the representation of racialised Swiss people. It cements their presence in our collective imagination as they are: ordinary Swiss nationals. This shoot was inspired by the DAZED winter 2023 issue cover in honour of French Muslim women, representing colours of the Swiss flag through a politicised piece of clothing: abayas. These Black Hijabi women completely inhabit that national symbol and show that they also are the contemporary Heidi.
“My creative scene is a tight community of amazing creatives that also graduated from BA Graphic Communication Design at Central Saint Martins and the wonderful women from my hometown, Sion, who made this photoshoot a reality.” – @sfznd
The Ordinary Swiss portraits, multi-screen documentary and ‘Making of’ publication of the project are all currently shown at Lethaby gallery, London until the October 31, 2024.
“I’m primarily a fashion photographer and I love exploring my discipline through a queer, alternative outlook. I like to incorporate my personal experiences into my work and also use fashion as a means of building entirely new worlds through photography. I genuinely believe in expanding this industry and seeing the beauty in the alternative, which is why I strive for my work to be as diverse and inclusive as possible.
“Fantasia is a series about dystopian fashion and combining clothes, props and design to create an alternative world. The editorial transcends reality and features mythical horses, surreal hairstyles, and high fashion set against enchanting backdrops devised by set designer Eleanor Strong. With bold silhouettes, intricate details, and an otherworldly atmosphere, Fantasia offers a refreshing escape into a dreamlike world where fashion and fantasy seamlessly intertwine.
“I was particularly inspired by the exploration of fantasy in the PFW24 Alexander McQueen runway show in February. So much so that Fantasia fuses both the avant-garde elegance of this McQueen show with the ethereal allure of A Midsummer Night’s Dream – both were big inspirations for me in the creation of this series. I was also inspired by lots of dystopian films and stories; I have always loved dystopian novels and ideas of different worlds and spaces.” – @danniijophotography
