On October 7, Hamas launched an assault on Israel. Over 100 Israelis were taken hostage and around 1,300 killed, including 260 people who were attending a music festival in Re’im.
In response to the attack, Israel declared war on Hamas and has subsequently launched a bombing campaign against Gaza, cut off the supply of water, electricity and fuel into the region, and ordered all one million people living in the north of Gaza to evacuate to the south. The region is now facing a devastating humanitarian crisis that is impacting over two million people.
It’s difficult not to feel despondent in the face of such suffering, but there are some ways that you can support the Palestinian people and help provide them with the aid that they so desperately need.
With Humans is a print sale fundraiser hosted by 2LAB to support Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). MAP is a UK-based charity supporting Palestinians, working with trusted local partners in the West Bank, Gaza, East Jerusalem and Lebanon to provide access to essential health services. In times of humanitarian emergency, MAP responds rapidly with aid and assistance.
“The injustice that Palestinian people live every day is unbearable and overwhelming. We feel lucky to be on the other side of the Mediterranean, but we’ve always been close to the Palestinian cause,” says Mattia Stompo, founder and curator at 2LAB. “We – like many – have been shocked by the cruelty that is happening, and we wanted to help in any way that we can.”
“We’re offering a selection of photographs from our incredible community. The response from everyone has been amazing, we received so many images in less than 48 hours. We’re grateful for all our friends in the photography world,” Stomp continues.
Alessandro Sala, Andrea Savini, Harry Truman, and Theo McInnes are among the photographers who have contributed work to the sale, which is running from October 18 to November 12, 2023. Every print is £45, has a standard size of 20x30cm and is printed on Hahnemühle Baryta paper.
