The Chicago-born drag superstar is already a frontrunner on season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race
The tenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race has only just started, but one of the names already at the forefront is The Vixen.
Real name Anthony Taylor, the drag star was already snatching wigs before even stepping foot in the werkroom on the show. Not only as a prominent face in her hometown of Chicago, but also as one of the stars in the music video, “Cocky”, for season 9 finalist, and fellow Chi queen, Shea Couleé.
More than just a musical performer, The Vixen is also interested in social politics, especially around the treatment of black women and drag queens. Already promoting conversations on RPDR around the ‘angry black woman’ narrative, she also has a club night, Black Girl Magic, that always features an all-black cast to give them a platform, rather than pitting them against each other. Eclectic in her style, the defining part of her aesthetic is championing hairstyles often worn by black women – box braids, curls, and afros.
Season 10 of RPDR is still ongoing, but whatever the result of the show is, The Vixen is set to dominate.
