A fluke encounter on a beach in Florida lead Sasha Lane to a starring role in American Honey, and a new life in Hollywood
It seems likely that 2016’s American Honey will go down as one of the most brash, unsettling and brilliant millennial films – in no small part thanks to Sasha Lane’s seemingly effortless performance as main character, Star. Lane, who had no previous acting experience, was spotted on the beach by director Andrea Arnold during spring break in Panama City, Florida in 2015 and whisked off into a life of fame. After an intense two month shoot she realised that she’d been bitten by the acting bug. She has since landed roles in four upcoming movies as well as modelling for Louis Vuitton’s SS17 campaign. Scratch the surface and it’s clear there will be bigger, and perhaps more political, things to come from Lane – the Texan-born actor is instinctively anti-establishment and has said she is keen to work on projects exploring her mixed-race identity.
