Google Stella Maxwell and you’ll find endless column inches dedicated to her fling-turned-friendship with pop activist Miley Cyrus. But the Belgian-born model is in fact very serious about her career.
Scouted on the street in New Zealand (where she moved with her family at the age of 14), Maxwell got hooked on modelling after her first shoot, and has since walked runways for Jeremy Scott, Moschino, Marc Jacobs and Versace. She has been featured in endless editorial pages, and gained her Victoria’s Secret wings just last year.
Unlike most Victoria’s Secret girls, however, Maxwell’s public persona isn’t simply rock-hard abs and sparkling smiles. She parties, she gets naked, she kisses girls – it’s hard to imagine another VS Angel being quite so bold. In other words, Maxwell is offering an alternative depiction of what the ‘perfect young woman’ should be – and thank God for that.
